Eva Olsson

The Holocaust, a terrible event that happened from April 1933-May 1945, happened because of hate, a thing that nobody should do. Most people say the word hate every day but they don't really mean it, to be honest i say the word hate practically everyday, about simple matters like, I hate anchovies on my pizza, or i hate the cold and the rain. But in truth i don't like anchovies on my pizza, and I don't like the cold and the rain. And that's exactly what Eva Olsson a Holocaust survivor came to talk to us about.

Eva Olssn's story is a sad one, that affected many people, after the war she didn't talk about it for 50 years it's so sad. Imagine seeing all the things that she has seen, been through, from what she said, almost literally hell. What would you have done, if at every minute, of every day, for 12 years you were worried that you would die.

The terrible things that Hitler did could not have been done without bi-standers, if people didn't just stand and watch as all those people get shipped to concentration camps then there would be many more people walking on this earth today.

Hate, you should never do it, watch it, or even say it. That is what Eva Olsson came here to say, so that we could be aware.

Norval

Our trip to Norval was really fun. My favourite part was the activities, our group went to more because we did the challenges so well. My team was really good at supporting each other, literally, and figuratively.

On one of the challenges we had was communication, one time when Ethan had a really good idea and was trying to say it I had to yell it out to the group to get them to hear him, with a few modifications, we managed to complete a challenge in under 35 milliseconds, now that's teamwork!

The drum circle was also very interesting. It wasn't the best circle but it sounded awesome. The guy leading it was awesome, it didn't need to talk to much, he could just communicate through his body language.

Overall I thought that it was a great day and it really was a, "team building experience".

The Breadwinner

Oh no, he's gonna find me. If I move then he'll shoot where the poppies are moving, if he catches me then I'll be put in jail. I don't know what will happen if I get put in jail, I think that I'll take my chances running. I took a break for it, I heard gunfire and ran faster. A bullet hit the sole of my shoe on an angle. It didn't hit me but now there's a hole in my shoe which I worked for a year to get enough money for. I could see the end of the field, but I think that he's getting closer. "Yes! I'm out! It's easy to lose guards in the market place, I should be fine now."

Life in Afghanistan is tough, the more people you had in your family the less money you had in your family. I'm pretending to be a tea boy so my family doesn't get mad at me. I don't know how I'm going to explain the bullet hole in my shoe though. My boss told me that he'd pay me me more if I got more than two bags of opium, but I need to get two full bags or no extra money. I'll have to go back to get some more, since I only have one and a half filled.

I'm the only one who can work in my family because no one knows where my dad is and I'm the only boy who's capable of walking. My older brother's legs got blown off in a bombing a while ago.He was my age when it happened. I have two sisters, my brother, and my mom to take care of. My brother says that you have to be fast to be a tea boy because the faster you run the more tea you sell and the more money you earn. I'm not very fast so I'm picking opium instead, it pays better anyways.

Some people might think that I'm a criminal, stealing, picking opium, lying to my parents, but I'm just making a living the best way I know how. I want you to think about if you would do the same as me if you lived here under these conditions, earning just enough money to survive on flat bread and dirty water. What would you do?

Do the clothes make the man?

I don't think that clothes shape who you are. People may judge you by the way you're dressed, but if you wear something different you're not a different person. If you go to an interview for a desk job or any white-collar job, then you're going to wear a suit or a white-collared shirt(hence the name) instead of jeans and a tee-shirt. It also depends on the person judging you. If you go to school wearing a suit and tie on civvies day, the teachers would approve and the students wouldn't, and if you walk into school wearing torn jeans and a sloppy tee-shirt then the teachers wouldn't like it that much but the kids wouldn't even notice. Therefore I think that the clothes do not make the man, but the man makes the clothes. : )
